Body is an association of many organs and all have them play important role in the function of body. To be healthy and active we have to take care about all these organs. Our body needs the entire organ to work properly in order for a better life. Our heart needs to pump blood accurately, our brain has to look after proper functioning of the body as well as it supports in our day-to-day progress, so as the function of lungs, which is an organ that allows us to breathe air. Because of lungs, our body gets oxygen, which is its main function, and it separates toxic substances like carbon dioxide that are produced by our cells. There are two lungs in the body, which are located in your chest behind the ribs. However, the interesting fact about lungs is that they look similar and they are in the set of two but they are not the same size. The reason behind the difference in their size is make a place for heart. Ribs are for the protection of lungs and heart as they are soft and if not protected any small hurting might damage them. There is dome-shaped muscle, which is called diaphragm it is located just below the lungs. This muscle contracts or shrinks at the time of breathe in and it regains its original shape at the time of breath out, if this muscle will not work properly than you may feel harder breathing. Tubes are present which connects the mouth to the inside of lungs. One of them is trachea in your throat, which is also called as windpipe. Which leads to bronchi and it then it splits too many tiny tubes, which are called bronchioles. Bronchi generate about 30,000 bronchioles in your lungs.  There are little sacks at the end of each bronchiole, which are called alveoli. They extend and relaxes during each breathe this is the place where oxygen enters the blood and carbon dioxide take exist from the blood. The total count of alveoli in your lungs reaches up to the counting of 600 million. There are small little hairs in the lungs, which are called as mucous. These mucous are helpful in catching the dust, dirt and bacteria, which enters your body with air you inhale.

Healthy lungs look pink in color but lungs of smokers are black and dull because they get damaged by smoking. Because of lungs, we can breathe 23,000 times a day. There is something in interesting facts about lungs, which is that it can float in water, and other than lungs, none of the organ of the body can float in water. Lungs can suffer from diseases like asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, pneumonia and tuberculosis. However, a dreadful disease, which is caused by smoking, is lung cancer. Tar fills in lungs because of cigarette smoking, which results in lung cancer.

Lungs are playing important role while we talk. There is an organ called larynx, which is present just above the trachea (wind pipe) which also has the other name that is voice box. It contains your vocal cords two little ridges, which open, or close, they allow you to make low as well as high pitch sounds. It is upon you that how much amount of air you force through vocal cord, which affects the pitch of sound and volume of the sound. Brain manages the speed of breathing; it confirms the amount of oxygen in blood and the amount of carbon dioxide which comes out from cells as waste and then brain decides for lungs that how fast it must breathe according to this information. Breathing level varies according to the activity of the body like in sleeping, walking, running or exercising. Breathing level differs in all these activities.
